"I am so happy to have found Strides. Lelani and Mikkayla are amazing young women who have a gift for horses AND people. Mikkayla is my personal instructor but I've learned a lot from Lelani as well. I'm probably their oldest student and they've made me feel so comfortable. They teach more than just ridding. They offer fun activities for the kids and clinics for all ages. So if you want your kids to learn about horses and riding or you're an adult who'd like to check off an item from your own bucket list, Strides is the place to be!" - Patricia Heath

The team here at Strides Horsemanship is as invested in your horsemanship journey as you are. We want to create confident and knowledgeable riders while maintaining a safe and positive environment. Our curriculum focuses on both the excellent care of our equine partners and the growth of the riders’ skills. Horseback riding supports mental health, boosts confidence, and is fabulous physical exercise. Horses are sensitive to our emotions and body language making them excellent teachers and therapists. We support a growth mindset for our students, and our instructors attend continued education on a regular basis themselves.

Our comprehensive curriculum covers not only riding skills, but horsemanship, knowledge, and care. We use a curriculum with benchmarking systems that objectively teach and test for both mounted and unmounted milestones. This allows students to make greater progress faster and with more clarity about the next steps for their growth as riders. Students are presented with medals for the levels they have passed to recognize their achievements!

Included in Membership/Subscription:

  • Horsemanship Class: Fridays 5:30pm - 6:30pm (All ages)

    • A different workshop is offered each week such as anatomy, vet care, tack cleaning, horse identification, etc. Horsemanship Class is complimentary for the riders in our program to help develop them as equestrians. Attendance is not mandatory, but encouraged.

    • Additional horsemanship class for advanced students (invite via instructor) Saturdays at 10-11am

  • Barn Assistant opportunities

    • Help instructors tack, groom, feed, clean stalls, and care for horses.

  • Strides Horsemanship Student Schooling Shows

    • Schooling shows at the barn are a great way for students to learn the structure of shows, compete against other riders, and win awards without the financial commitment of an away show. Fees apply.

  • Access to our complete curriculum level 1-5

  • Ground to Tack Sessions: Thursdays 5:30-6:30

    • Weekly sessions set aside for a Barn Assistant to teach everything you need to know about preparing your horse to be ridden. Topics include: haltering, leading, grooming and tacking up. Let the Barn Assistant know what you need to learn and they will help you!

Strides Horsemanship Cancellation Policy

We at Strides Horsemanship strive to provide the best possible instruction to our students. Your lesson time has been reserved especially for you. We do understand that emergencies can happen, and at times an appointment may need to be canceled or rescheduled.

  • If the student cannot make their regular scheduled time during the week Strides Horsemanship will allow a makeup lesson. Lessons must be canceled 24 hours in advance in order to receive a make-up lesson.

  • Riders are limited to a maximum of 4 make ups per year.

  • In the event that the weather prevents riding – unmounted lessons will be substituted.

  • An attempt will be made to try and find an additional time for the student where there is an appropriate lesson horse and group, however because of the complexities of scheduling there is no guarantees. Monthly tuition is still due in full when student misses their lessons. The best way to get the most value out of the program is to make it a priority and a commitment not miss your dedicated lesson time(s).

We appreciate your understanding in this matter!

"This is a fantastic riding school for Western style. The instructors are incredibly friendly and compassionate with students despite being award winning pros.

You can count on your child getting the attentive instruction and patience that can be so hard to come by at other stables.

Truly cannot say enough good things about these guys." - Evan Jones

"Attended a clinic this spring with Leilani. It was the first clinic with my new horse. The clinic was small in number so everyone got a lot of individual attention. Leilani was very proficient at assessing where each horse and rider was at skill level and the clinic moved along at a perfect pace so we all could learn and practice the skills she was teaching. She explained things well and we got to watch her demonstrate on our horses and also got to watch everyone trying the skills which helps you learn too. I would wholeheartedly recommend a clinic or lesson with Strides. We really learned a lot." -Shelley Bennett

We feel so fortunate to have found Strides. Mikkayla is a phenomenal instructor. She is the perfect blend of personable, knowledgeable, patient, firm and most importantly, kind, to both the students and the horses. She encourages independence and responsibility. We gladly drive over an hour each way for our weekly lesson. We could not be happier with our experience at Strides.

"Josie started taking lessons at Strides Horsemanship in Longview Washington the beginning of June 2023. Josie has been taking Western Dressage lessons with Samantha, I can’t say enough good things about Samantha and her teaching style, she is extremely knowledgeable and Josie is very comfortable with her. Between the start of her lessons with Samantha and Josie’s county fair, mid July, Josie and her horse Tiny had made significant improvements! After county fair Josie and Samantha took the notes from the judges and worked hard to make the improvements needed before state fair at the end of August. Josie and Tiny made significant improvements in the short time from county fair to state fair. Josie ended state fair with the second highest score in her division, she was awarded a medallion ribbon and a blue ribbon with a score of 66.2%. Josie also had the top score in her division for Trail and was awarded a medallion ribbon and a blue ribbon! I see a difference in her everyday riding and am very thankful for what Samantha has taught her and what she continues to teach her!"
